Astroboy Remake News (a2/12/01)

"DINOSAUR co-director Eric Leighton has come on board Sony's long developing ASTROBOY movie project. In addition, though previous word suggested that the film would be live-action, current plans are for the project to be fully CG.

"ASTROBOY's effects will be done by Sony Imageworks, which had been on the selling block by its parent company. Now, Sony is looking to shift the f/x house's direction towards a Pixar-like situation.

"Todd Alcott (ANTZ) and Ken Kaufman (SPACE COWBOYS) wrote the film's script, which is based on the Japanes comic turned animated series created by Osamu Tezuka....

"Don Murphy will produce the film, along with Lisa Henson and Kristine Belson.

"Sony Imageworks is currently at work on test footage for the film. A greenlight is said to be imminent on the project, though no budget has been set. Sony is eyeing 2004 for the film's release."
