News on Fanboy Entertainment
(29/6/01)
Looks like C.B. Cebulski is quite angry over rumours about Fanboy
Entertainment, that he sent a very "angry" email to the
people on his mailing list. You can read his email here,
as I wasn't going to paste a 16kb email on the news page :P.
Escaflowne News
(27/6/01)
"According to the last DVD of Escaflowne (#8), there will
be a limited release of the Escaflowne movie later in 2001, followed
by a VHS and DVD release sometime in 2002. Bandai has also reserved
the URL http://www.escamovie.com, but has yet to add any content.

Akira Stuff (27/6/01)
"The non-flash side of the
Akira site has updated with some sweet new information, especially
for those picking up the Special Edition version. Of particular
interest, in what seems to be in the vein of the Matrix disc release,
there's a "Capsule Option" - translation of Japanese grafitti. I'm
guessing that if you play with the option on, you can check out
what things say without having to clutter up the screen if you're
not interested. One other feature, one that's going to take a hell
of a long time to get through, is the disc has over 4500 stills.
I can't wait to get to those, as well as the interview with the
restoration staff to see what they did."

More Licensing Rumours
(23/6/01)
"While the licensing rumor for DiGi Charat failed to pan out,
there's two new rumors that look like they might have some meat
behind them. According to
this page at Anime Expo's site, Pioneer is the group behind
bringing over the Ah! My Goddess! the Movie to the convention, along
with Akira and Tenchi Muyo in Love. In fact, most companies are
obviously bringing the properties that they own to AE2001.
What else is worth noting? Bandai is bringing out Cyberteam in
Akihabara, which longtime astute readers here will remember we mentioned
in the rumor category over a year and a half ago along with Crest
of the Stars and Fancy Lala. Chances are good that both of these
have a home. One thing to ponder, if the Goddess movie does pan
out, rumor with that movie indicated that the Mini-Goddesses series'
license was tied to the acquisition of the movie, so there's a slim
chance that Pioneer may have gained that as well."

BoogiePop Phantom
Release Dates (22/6/01)
"I have to admit, the title is just infectious. Boogiepop
Phantom. TRSI's latest show has gotten the first full bits of hard
info out today, such as prices and release dates:
Boogiepop Phantom Vol #1 on 25/09/01
Boogiepop Phantom Vol #2 on 30/10/01
Boogiepop Phantom Vol #3 on 27/11/01
Boogiepop PhantomVol #4 on 29/01/02
Boogiepop Phantom Box Set of all 4 on 29/01/02
All four volumes list for $29.95 and have a running time of 90
minutes. The box set, due on the day of the final volume, lists
for $99.95. This is an very good way to market the show, showing
both individual and box set release dates, and the box set having
a lower price than the combined by about $20. No word yet on the
extras or what the box itself may contain, but even if it's nothing
but the box, the $20 savings is definitely worth waiting for the
more cost conscious fan. "
The above was altered a little, with dates changed to Aussie style,
money is in US dollars.

Akira Confusion
(18/6/01)
"Here's something you can expect to see confusing fans and
retailers alike for the next several months. Pioneer has announced
that the non-metal case special edition version of Akira (i.e. the
same exact discs as the the metal case, just in a keepcase) will
arrive on 9/25/2001. Some retailers are changing the date for the
limited edition tin version, still due on 7/24/2001, to 9/25/2001.
This is wrong. The tin edition, now being marketed as the Akira:
Limited Special Edition by distributor Image Entertainment, will
not be changing its date at all. The non-tin edition is now being
labeled as simply Akira: Special Edition. Which is what most retailers
are currently using. Expect much confusion."

Mahoromatic
(New Gainax Anime) (17/6/01)
"Mahoromatic, a popular manga serialized in Comic Gum, will
be shown as an anime on BS-i from autumn this year.
Produced by Gainax-Shaft the anime will be directed by Hiroyuki
Yamaga, director and scriptwriter of "Ouritsu Uchugun - Oanemisu
no Tsubasa" and scriptwriter of "Top wo nerae!".
The story revolves around the female-type combat android V1046-R
Vesper Hyper Soldier - Mahoro. In the early 1980's these androids
were produced to save the Earth from alien invasion. Without any
humans noticing (well did you?) these Vesper Hyper soldiers fought
off the alien attack. Mahoro, the strongest fighter, fought for
9 years and was on the verge of termination. As a reward for her
fighting she is allowed to live a free life - but the catch is that
after her weapons are removed she'll only function for another 398
days.
Mahoro decides that she'll spend her remaining time taking care
of Suguru, a second year Junior High School student. Suguru is the
son of Commander Misato, who Mahoro witnessed dying on the battlefield.
She changes her name to Mahoro Ando and becomes a maid, concealing
the fact that she is an android. And so the chirpy maid Mahoro and
Suguru start their adventures together.
The first episode of this anime has also been scheduled to air
on TBS's "Anime Festa 2001" series. "
