If there's ever been a love story which has had
so many love triangles within it, Marmalade Boy is the anime which
takes the cake. This anime has so many love triangles within it
that sometimes it gets VERY confusing to watch and get the drift
of what exactly is going on!
This anime follows the life of Miki Koishikawa and
Yuu Matsura. Both of their parents met eachother on a holiday,
and decided then that they wanted to marry another person, (eg.
Miki's dad marries Yuu's mum and Miki's mum marries Yuu's dad).
*sigh* The two families than move into a bigger house where they
all live under the same roof. A romance soon strikes up between
Miki and Yuu, but not without difficulty. Miki is trying to come
to terms with her feelings for Ginta and Yuu, and Yuu is still
being sought after by his ex-girlfriend Arimi.
Of course, since this anime is an anime based on
love triangles, more characters are introduced and you get a school
girl falling for her teacher, the SRC leader falling for that
school girl, an ex-piano player falling for Miki, an American
college student falling for Yuu, goodness, the list is endless.
What's the plot? Very good question. All this anime
deals about is relationships. One could say the plot was to follow
the love story of Miki and Yuu, but that's probably the only thing
you can get out of this anime. If you're a sucker for romances
mixed with a little comedy, Marmalade Boy is for you. However,
if you're a person who just gets angry about the fact that one
girl can't make up her mind about how many guys, or if you're
a person who's looking for an action anime, steer well clear of
this one.
I'd probably say that Marmalade Boy is a cheap rip-off
of the love story in Fushigi Yuugi, but much worse and much more
dragged out. At least the music from the anime is nice.
